Minister for Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht Heather Humphreys joined Cathaoirleach of Cavan County Council, Cllr Paddy McDonald, and Cllr Cathy Bennett, Cathaoirleach of Monaghan County Council, in launching the ambitious and exciting programme, which features over 200 events aimed at stimulating young people's interest in S.T.E.A.M.
Festival partners Cavan County Council, Monaghan County Council and Cavan Monaghan Education and Training Board have produced a comprehensive programme of events for both counties, which will stimulate interest, excitement and debate about STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Maths).
The festival is funded by the Science Foundation of Ireland, Cavan County Council, and Monaghan County Councils. This year, the festival organisers are particularly delighted to work with Lakeland Dairies, who have kindly agreed to visit schools to speak about dairy science, milk processing and food production in their factory.
In addition, this year the festival has again teamed up with Teagasc Ballyhaise, the HSE, LAWCO water specialists, and Council Environmental and Waste Management staff.
Over the 16 days of the science festival, people will have an opportunity to dip into all aspects of science. Topics include Coding Workshops, Equine Kinesiology, Science of Politics, Wonders of the Cosmos, CSI Water presentations, IT for farmers, Top tips for maths, Safety around farm machinery, and the Science of Beer/Gin. Energy workshops, science workshops and demonstrations, STEAM literacy workshops, career talks for secondary and third level students and their parents, Science of bird watching, and lots, lots more besides!
