Funded through the Department of Rural and Community Development, the programme targets disadvantaged geographic areas and specific groups including low income households, Travellers and unemployed people. The programme helps marginalised communities by tackling social exclusion, supporting community groups to develop and helping individuals to progress.

Staff in Breffni Integrated use community development approaches to deliver the service, offering one to one training, youth work, group facilitation and a variety of other professional supports

Cathaoirleach of Cavan County Council Cllr Paddy McDonald said “Breffni Integrated delivers a very valuable service to the community of County Cavan, working to tackle poverty and disadvantage with appropriate methods and sensitivity. We look forward to a fruitful working relationship over the coming five year period.”

Terry Hyland, SICAP Programme Manager said “In 2017, Breffni Integrated, under the SICAP Programme, supported over 800 people and 50 community groups. We look forward to working with Cavan County Council and other stakeholders in delivering supports and services that will affect positive change in local communities.

Chairperson of Breffni Integrated Helen O’Reilly added, “While the economy continues to improve and recover there remains significant poverty and disadvantage across the entire county. SICAP is the only dedicated national social inclusion programme that aims to tackle these issues and Breffni Integrated is ready to take on this challenge for the next five years”.
