Four Cavan initiatives have been nominated in the 2018 LAMA All-Ireland Community and Council Awards, sponsored by IPB Insurances.

The Comhairle na nÓg Pop-Up Gaeltacht, which took place in June at Castle Saunderson Scouting Centre, has been nominated as Best Irish Language Initiative. This event was supported by Cavan County Council, Creative Ireland and funded by Pobal and administered through Foróige.
Following a hugely successful 2017 festival, with over 200 individual events held, Cavan-Monaghan Science Festival, a joint initiative of Cavan and Monaghan County Councils, the Cavan-Monaghan Education and Training Board, and Science Foundation Ireland, is nominated for Best Education/Training Initiative.
Among the nominees for Best Heritage Project, is the Restoration of Railway Bridge, Crossdoney.
Bob Gilbert, Chair of the Cavan Older Person's Council and the National Network of Older People’s Councils, is also nominated for community volunteer of the year.
The winners, representing their counties, will be announced by RTÉ’s Marty Morrissey at a gala awards ceremony at Croke Park Stadium on Saturday 3rd February 2018.
