Second podcast to air in mental health series on local stories of hope ahead of World Mental Health Day on October 10th

The second in a series of podcasts focusing on local stories of hope and recovery in Cavan and Monaghan will air on Friday October 8th ahead of World Mental Health Day on Sunday October 10th

Published on: 07 Oct 2021

Stories of Recovery Podcast Series is a collaboration between Mental Health Ireland and HSE Cavan Monaghan Mental Health Service as part of the Connecting for Life Cavan Monaghan Strategy to reduce suicide in our communities.

The series is running over seven months, airing an episode each month addressing different aspects of recovery from adversity and mental health challenges.

It is widely recognised that sharing the personal narrative and lived experience of recovery from adverse events in life offers hope and inspiration to those who may be going through something similar. It has been shown to promote help seeking behaviour and encourage people to reach out for support when needed.

To mark World Mental Health Day two episodes of Stories of Recovery Podcast will be published on Friday 8th October.

In conversation with Miffy Hoad, Development Officer with Mental Health Ireland for the Cavan Monaghan area are Dermot Foley and Helen McCrarren. Dermot is a Sports Physiotherapist, working with several football teams as well as having a private Physiotherapy practice. Dermot talks about his recovery from long term anxiety & depression and how WRAP – Wellness Recovery Action Plan, has been a staple for him in getting well and staying well. Helen is a Social Worker with HSE Cavan Monaghan Child & Adolescent Mental Health Service and is also a WRAP (wellness recovery action planning) facilitator. In this episode the focus is on what WRAP is and how it can help us to recover and maintain our wellbeing.

On Friday October 8th a taster of the podcast will be aired on the Wider View programme on Northern Sound.

In November, the episode will focus on Men’s health and wellbeing and December will be about family mental health & wellbeing.

Listening to the stories of how people have overcome adversity and now flourish in their lives can provide hope and inspiration. We hope you will join us in listening to our ‘Stories of Recovery’.

The first episode of ‘Stories of Recovery’ Podcast which was published on Friday September 10th is also available at Mental Health Ireland’s Podcast Channel https://audioboom.com/channels/5013394 or wherever you like to listen to podcasts.
