Your business and the environment
If you are a business which is operating in County Cavan or anywhere else in Ireland, you are obligated by law to recycle as much waste as possible.
As a business, regardless of your sector, you are obligated to separate and recycle all of your recyclable waste.
I operate a business, what do I do?
To ensure that you are meeting the obligations of the law with regards to waste management, you can carry out the following.
- Choose a licensed waste collector who will collect and recycle separated packaging waste. Ensure they hold or have applied to the Council for a waste collection permit and a waste permit (if required).
- Segregate all your waste by material e.g. used cardboard boxes and plastic film, glass, steel, aluminium and paper.
- If possible, bale the separated material. This will reduce the amount of space your waste takes up and will make it more valuable and consequently more attractive to a waste collector to provide you with a cost-effective service.
The Waste Management (Prohibition of Waste Disposal by Burning) Regulations 2009 came into effect on the 27 July 2010 and deals specifically with the disposal of waste by burning.
Farmers must complete an intent to burn application before the burning of any Wood, Trees, Tree trimmings, Leaves or Brush, takes place.
