The Cavan Town and Environs Development Plan was prepared under the provision of the Planning and Development Act 2000 (as amended).

The plan was adopted at a meeting of Cavan County Council on Monday 12 May 2014 and came into effect on Monday 9 June 2014 and subsequently at a meeting of Cavan Town & Environs Development Plan on Wednesday 21 May 2014 and came into effect Wednesday 18 June 2014
