COVID-19 LOCAL UPDATES
Customer Service Desk
The Customer Service Desk at the Johnston Centre, Farnham St, Cavan re-opens on Monday, 29th June at the revised hours of 10am-1pm and 2pm-5pm. The desk will now be located on the ground floor. Members of the public are reminded that most business may be conducted by phone or email and are asked to only visit council offices when essential. Face-to-face meetings may only be scheduled by appointment.
Motor Tax Office
The Motor Tax Office at Courthouse, Cavan re-opens to the public on Monday, 6th July from 9am to 3.30pm (Monday to Friday). The public are asked to adhere to the new queuing system which will be in operation outside the building's side entrance. An intercom system will be in place allowing two customers into the office at any one time. Where possible, the public are asked to avail of the many services, including motor tax renewals, on www.motortax.ie
Community Call Helpline hours
The Community Call helpline is now open from 9am to 5pm, seven days a week. If you are vulnerable or isolated, call freephone 1800 300 404 or email email@example.com for assistance with transport, shopping, essentials, etc.

Age Action has developed a Getting Started Keeping In Touch KIT, which comprises seven 'How To' guides that will support older people to learn, use, and be confident using smartphones and applications. Read more.
The Government has made a further Order under extending the duration of all relevant periods and timelines specified in planning legislation by an additional 14 days, up to and including 23 May 2020. Read more.
An Taoiseach has announced a roadmap for re-opening the country, starting with two changes, effective from Tuesday, 5th May. The 2km travel zone from your home for exercise has now been extended to 5km, while those who are cocooning can leave their home for exercise if they avoid all contact. Read more.
As Ireland enters a crucial phase in the fight against the virus, the three principal response agencies that make up the North East Regional Steering Group, An Garda Síochána, the HSE and the Local Authorities, have thanked people for their work on stopping the spread of Covid-19. Read more.
You can now arrange for a Cavan GAA star to mak a short phone call to a friend or relative who is cocooning or isolated, as part of a new initiative by Cavan County Board and Age Friendly Cavan. Read more.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the Government has extended the Order facilitating temporary arrangements for the operation of the planning system that originally commenced on 29th March, until Saturday 9th May 2020 (inclusive). Read more
To assist local authority home loan borrowers who may experience a reduction in their income arising from COVID-19 and may not be able to make repayments on their loans, a Mortgage Payment Break of up to three months will be made available to those who need it. Read more.
The 2020 Covid-19 Emergency Fund provides grants to groups that are participating in the Local Authority led Community Call effort in response to the Covid-19 pandemic. Read more

A new dedicated helpline, freephone 1800 300 404, is available to offer assistance to isolated and/or vulnerable members of the community in County Cavan during the COVID-19 emergency. Read more.
The Motor Tax Office will remain closed to the public until further notice due to the ongoing COVID-19 health emergency. Motor tax renewals can be processed online by logging on to www.motortax.ie. Read more.
Update regarding public offices
In line with the latest Government measures announced in relation to the containment of COVID-19, all offices of Cavan County Council will be closed to the public from Monday, 30th March. During this time essential services will be maintained, and payments and general queries can be conducted via email at firstname.lastname@example.org or by phone on 049-4378300. The council’s out-of-hours emergency number is 087-6118116. Issues with water supply can be directed to Irish Water’s helpline on 1850-278278.

Charges for car-parking on street and in car parks across Cavan Town is to be temporarily suspended until further notice for the convenience and safety of the community during the COVID-19 emergency. Read more
