Minister Humphreys announces €141,345 for Local Enhancement projects

Minister for Rural and Community Development, Heather Humphreys TD has announced funding for 78 successful projects in County Cavan under the Local Enhancement Programme (LEP) 2024, including 16 projects that benefitted from funding specifically ringfenced to support women’s groups.

Speaking in Tullyvin, where he joined Minister Humphreys in launching Cavan’s Local Economic and Community Plan 2024 – 2029, an integrated plan that will guide the county’s economic and community development over the next six years, Cathaoirleach of Cavan County Council, Cllr Philip Brady hailed the contribution of the community and voluntary sector to enhancing quality of life in County Cavan.

“Today is a fantastic day for county Cavan as we welcome this new Local Economic and Community Plan (LECP), and also see 78 worthy local groups receive funding under the Local Enhancement Programme. The LECP has been developed in consultation with our community sector, and will serve as a strong framework to support continued sustainable growth for our local economy and communities. Of course, these communities need financial support as well as strategic guidance, and as ever, we are grateful to Minister Humphreys and her department officials for their support of worthy projects in County Cavan,” said Cllr Brady.

Speaking as she announced details of the €141,345 funding allocation, Minister Humphreys said “The Local Enhancement Programme is about giving a helping hand to our local groups and clubs, who are the building blocks of Irish community life. I want to congratulate the successful applicants and to thank them for the vital work they do in providing services in their local communities. These grants will help thousands of community organisations, clubs, men’s and women’s sheds, youth centres and parish halls, to continue to provide their valuable services to the people in their areas.”

The Local Enhancement Programme provides capital supports essential for the many small community groups and organisations, particularly those who serve disadvantaged areas in rural and urban areas.

The Department of Rural and Community Development’s Local Enhancement Programme 2024 is administered by Local Community Development Committees, with support from the Local Authority, in each area.
