Cavan communities are invited to join in Ireland's new National Community Weekend event, which aims to strengthen community ties and tackle social isolation

Published on: 18 Apr 2019

'The Big Hello!', Ireland's first National Community Weekend, takes place this May Bank Holiday Weekend (4-6 May).

'The Big Hello!' supports communities to host events in their local area in order to strengthen community ties and help tackle the problem of social isolation.

The aim of the weekend is to encourage people to get to know their neighbours, by hosting or attending a Big Hello! event in their local area.

This can be done together in many ways. Come together to:

  • Eat
  • Dance
  • Stand
  • Sit
  • Walk
  • Chat
  • Sing
  • Jog

It is intended to have at least one Irish language event in each Local Authority area.

But how your community does it is up to you! This is your celebration; To Everybody, For Everybody!

When?

The Big Hello!, National Community Weekend 2019, is happening on the May bank holiday weekend, 4-6 May.

Where?

Events will take place in communities in every county. It will see neighbours reconnect within their communities and have a celebration together which is open and inclusive for all at a very local level.

How?

Events could range from a communal cup of tea or a picnic to a sports day or a local history event. The community decides!
