Notice of Municipal District Meetings

Have your voice heard! Your Municipal District Meeting will be held in July.

Published on: 05 Jul 2014

As part of the Local Government Reform Act 2014, the existing town authorities were replaced by a comprehensive system of municipal districts, integrating town and county governance. This system is in force since 1st June 2014. This system of local government sees the establishment of three Municipal Districts in County Cavan namely:

  1. Bailieborough-Cootehill Municipal District
  2. Ballyjamesduff Municipal District
  3. Cavan-Belturbet Municipal District

Cavan County Council is convening a meeting of community and voluntary groups within each of the three Municipal Districts.

The Local Government Reform Act 2014 provides for the establishment of a Public Participation Network (PPN) in County Cavan. The PPN is the county’s civic participation and representation structure for electing community representatives onto decision making bodies. As part of a collaborative and partnership approach Cavan County Council has designated Cavan Community Forum as the PPN to facilitate these meetings.

The meetings are open to groups on the Forum’s Register within each of the 3 Municipal Districts. The purpose of the meetings is to elect 6 representatives from each Municipal District onto the Cavan Public Participation Network county wide Secretariat.
