The Housing (Traveller Accommodation) Act, 1998 requires Local Authorities, in consultation with the Traveller community, to prepare and adopt a Traveller Accommodation Programme to meet the existing and project accommodation needs of the Traveller community. The drawing up of the programme is assisted by the local Traveller Consultative Committee, comprising representatives of the Traveller community, elected members of the Council, and council officials.
