Medical Cards

All Beneficiaries of Temporary Protection, International Protection Applicants and Refugees are entitled to access Healthcare services in Ireland.

A medical card gives access to some medical services for free. The card will be in date for one year for protection applicants. A GP will be assigned based on availability.

You can apply for a medical card online at www.medicalcard.ie

If you arrived from Ukraine and have temporary protection, you should apply for your medical card using a special medical card application form (pdf) for people from Ukraine. The medical card application form is also available in Ukrainian(pdf) andRussian (pdf).

You can email your completed form to PCRS.Applications@HSE.ie or by post to the address on the form. The HSE has a call line 0818-224478 for medical card queries. (Ukrainian translation can be requested).

Out of hours GP

An appointment based out of Hours GP service is available through NEDOC (Northeast Doctor On Call) by calling 1800 777 911/041 6850750.

NEDOC service opening hours are 6pm - 8am weekdays and 24 hours at weekends and Bank Holidays.

Emergency Services

To request ambulance, fire service, or police (Gardaí), call 999 or 112.

For medical emergencies you can attend Cavan General Hospital Emergency Department (Location and directions - Google Maps).

Minor Injury Unit

The nearest Minor Injury Unit is located at Monaghan Hospital and is open Monday – Sunday from 8am – 8pm.

Mental Health Services

If you are concerned about your own or someone else’s mental health, you can attend your GP for an onward referral or in the case of an emergency, the hospital Emergency Department.

Aware provide free support, education and information to those impacted by mental health concerns. For information or to find a local support group, visit www.aware.ie

My Mind provides counselling and psychotherapy at reduced price. This service is provided in English and a range of other languages.

ISPCC Childline offers a confidential 24-hour listening online, Text and Chat service for children and young people up to the age of 18 to talk about any issue.
