Contracts signed for €5.8m Housing Development

Cavan County Council and Crosserlough Construction have signed contracts for the delivery of twenty new homes at St Brigid’s Terrace, Cavan Town.

Cathaoirleach of Cavan County Council, Cllr Philip Brady welcomed the signing of contracts, stating, “this is a fantastic boost for the county town. This project will see eight derelict and vacant properties demolished to make way for twenty new energy efficient and modern homes, bringing new life into the town core. I am particularly pleased that a local firm, Crosserlough Construction, has been successful in winning this contract. In addition to creating new homes for families in need, we are providing a welcome boost to the local economy”.

The contract, which is valued at €5,876,610 plus VAT, will see the demolition of two bungalows and six terraced houses, to be replaced with two three-storey split level blocks comprising twenty units. Block ‘A’ will contain six one-bed apartments over six two-bed duplex apartments, while Block ‘B’ will contain four two-bed duplex apartments over four one-bed apartments.

Director of Service for Housing, Eoin Doyle said the scale of the development was indicative of the council’s commitment to delivering on the Government’s ‘Housing for All’ plan.

“This ambitious development will provide innovative, efficient, high-quality social housing, tackles vacancy in the town core, and will contribute significantly to the regeneration of the town centre, in tandem with other major projects such as the Abbeylands development, breathing new life into the county town,” added Mr Doyle.

Construction is expected to commence in early July 2023, and the contract is 18 months in duration.
