Border Biennale 2025 comes to Townhall Cavan
The second edition of the Border Biennale at Townhall Arts Centre Cavan, co-curated by internationally renowned artist Rita Duffy and Townhall Artist Liaison, Joe Keenan, officially opens at 3pm on Saturday, 19th July.
This powerful exhibition brings together national and international artists to explore the absurdities and realities of borders; political, cultural, and psychological.
With works addressing themes from migration and identity to climate and conflict, the Biennale continues to grow in ambition and impact.
This year’s exhibition features powerful and thought-provoking work by:
- Miriam de Búrca (Berlin-born, Ireland-based)
- Pascal Ungerer (Cork)
- Sally O’Dowd (Breffni-born, Belfast-based)
- Rita Duffy (Belfast-born, Ballyconnell-based)
As Duffy notes in The Anglo-Celt recently, “Borders seem to be very last century thinking,” and this exhibition invites audiences to reimagine the border not as a line of division, but as a space of shared creativity and critical reflection.
