Minister of State visits Ballyjamesduff Housing Development

Minister of State at the Department of Housing, Local Government, and Heritage, John Cummins TD visited Cavan on Wednesday where he met senior council officials for a briefing on the progress being made on social housing delivery in the county.

Cathaoirleach of Cavan County Council, Cllr John Paul Feeley, Chief Executive Eoin Doyle, and members of the senior management team hosted Minister of State Cummins in the Council Chamber on Wednesday afternoon, before Minister of State, who hold special responsibility for Planning at the Department, visited a social housing development at Derrylurgan to oversee progress.

Welcoming Minister of State Cummins, Cathaoirleach Cllr John Paul Feeley said, “I was pleased to welcome Minister of State Cummins to Cavan today where we had a productive conversation on current and future plans for housing development in the county”

The Cathaoirleach then brought Minister of State Cummins on a site visit to a new development Plás na hEithne, Derrylurgan, Ballyjamesduff, where nine residential units, consisting of four maisonettes and five two-bed dwellings, are under construction.

Chief Executive of Cavan County Council Eoin Doyle said, “I was delighted to join the Cathaoirleach in demonstrating to Minister of State Cummins the excellent work that is ongoing in County Cavan in social housing provision. I welcome the continued support of the Department as we continue to deliver on the Government’s ‘Housing for All’ programme”

Director of Service Lynda McGavigan added “These homes are being developed to a very high standard, not only providing a comfortable, safe home for nine families, but also reducing carbon emissions through the use of energy efficient construction methods and materials. The design and construction of the development is also being led by local firms ‒Wynne, Gormley, Gilsenan and Crosserlough Construction respectively ‒ with the added benefit that local jobs are being support, boosting the local economy”.

The Plás na hEithne development is scheduled for completion in early 2026 and the project cost of €2.39m is wholly funded by the Department of Housing, Local Government, and Heritage.
