Elections and Voting

Cavan County Council Corporate Services Department is responsible for the annual preparation and publication of the Cavan County Council Register of Electors. In order to vote at an election or referendum, a person's name must be listed on the Register of Electors for the locality in which the elector is ordinarily resident. Every resident aged 18 and upwards is entitled to be on the Register.

The electoral registration process has changed. You can now register to vote, confirm or update your details, download forms, or get more information at checktheregister.ie

Voting at Presidential, Dáil, Seanad, European and Local elections is by secret ballot on the principle of proportional representation in multi seat constituencies (Ireland is a single constituency at a Presidential election), each voter having a single transferable vote.
