Cavan County Council celebrates shortlisting in 2026 Business Energy Achievement Awards

Cavan County Council was shortlisted for the Best Energy Achievement in the Public Sector at the prestigious Business Energy Achievement Awards, recognising excellence in energy performance, sustainability leadership and climate action.

The Awards ceremony, held on 16 September, recognises the Council's continued commitment to reducing carbon emissions, improving energy efficiency and delivering impactful climate action initiatives across County Cavan.

The Business Energy Achievement Awards celebrate organisations that demonstrate outstanding achievement in energy management, renewable energy adoption, carbon reduction and sustainable business practices. Being recognised among leading organisations from across Ireland highlights the significant progress being made by Cavan County Council in advancing its climate ambitions and supporting the transition to a low-carbon future.

Speaking about the achievement, Cathaoirleach of Cavan County Council, Councillor Carmel Brady said "We are honoured to be recognised through the Business Energy Achievement Awards. This achievement reflects the dedication and collaboration of our staff, partners and stakeholders in implementing meaningful energy and climate actions across our organisation and throughout County Cavan. This recognition further motivates us to continue to work collaboratively to deliver a climate resilient, environmentally sustainable and low carbon future."

Cavan County Council’s Climate Action Plan 2024-2029 sets out a clear roadmap for delivering on national and local climate ambitions; improving climate resilience, enhancing energy efficiency and reducing emissions across its assets, services and operations. Collaboration and partnership with communities, businesses and stakeholders are central to achieving shared climate goals and strengthening climate resilience.

Chief Executive of Cavan County Council, Eoin Doyle, added “This award recognises not just past achievements, but our ongoing journey towards a more sustainable future. It reinforces our position that ambitious climate action, delivered through partnership and innovation, can create tangible, lasting benefits for our communities and environment."

In recent years, Cavan County Council has continued to invest and support initiatives to improve energy performance and support climate action. Energy efficiency retrofits and renewable energy installations continue to be progressed across public buildings and social housing stock, all electricity supplied to Council buildings procured as 100% renewable and plans are well developed to facilitate fleet decarbonisation and a transition to electric mobility.

The Council offers a wide range of supports to the business and community sector through the Green for Business programme, Energy Efficiency Grant scheme and Community Climate Action Fund, to deliver projects that contribute to a more environmentally sustainable and low-carbon future.

This recognition reinforces Cavan County Council's commitment to leading by example in climate action, energy efficiency and sustainability while continuing to support communities, businesses and stakeholders in building a more resilient and sustainable County Cavan.
