Cavan projects shortlisted for Excellence in Local Government Awards

Cavan County Council has had four projects shortlisted for this year’s Chambers Ireland Excellence in Local Government Awards.

The national awards recognise best practice across local authorities, celebrating innovative projects, public services and initiatives that strengthen communities across Ireland.

Cavan County Council has been recognised for four projects. The Created in Cavan Food Network has been shortlisted in the ‘Promoting Economic Development’ category, the cross-border ‘Art of Life’ project, has been selected in the ‘Best Age Friendly’ initiative, ‘Dance Connects’ – another cross-border project is shortlisted for ‘Sustaining the Arts’, and the Council’s ‘Oiliúint Gaeilge’ staff training initiative gets the nod for ‘Best Irish Language and Culture’ initiative.

Cathaoirleach of Cavan County Council, Cllr Carmel Brady has welcomed the news, stating, “I am delighted to see that these four worthwhile projects have been selected for this prestigious national competition. To have secured four nominations amid stiff competition nationally is testament to the excellent work that Cavan County Council is undertaking on behalf of the people of Cavan. I congratulate all the staff, partner agencies, and members of the local community who helped make these projects such as a success and wish all the nominees the very best of luck in Dublin on 26^th November”.

Chief Executive of Cavan County Council, Mr Eoin Doyle said, “Cavan County Council’s dedicated staff, with the support of our elected members, deliver almost 1,000 services to the general public on a daily basis, and while the real reward is seeing the positive impacts this work has on the community, getting shortlisted for these national awards does emphasise the high quality of work that is being delivered within a national context. I congratulate those involved in promoting these fantastic projects and, indeed, all our staff for their passion, dedication, and skill in serving their communities”.

The 2026 Chambers Ireland Excellence in Local Government Awards take place on Thursday, 26^th November in the Crowne Plaza, Santry, Dublin.
