LCSP and elected representatives come together to discuss community safety priorities

The Cavan Local Community Safety Partnership (LCSP) hosted a closed meeting with elected representatives at Hotel Kilmore, Cavan on 14 September 2026 to discuss community safety priorities and ongoing initiatives across County Cavan.

The meeting brought together members of the Cavan LCSP, Oireachtas members, county councillors, representatives from An Garda Síochána, the HSE, TUSLA and Cavan County Council. The event provided an opportunity to strengthen collaboration and address community safety concerns.

Opening the meeting Cllr. John Paul Feeley, LCSP Chairperson welcomed attendees and highlighted the importance of partnership working in creating safer and more resilient communities. He reaffirmed the commitment of the Cavan LCSP and its partner agencies to work collaboratively with communities in addressing their concerns and delivering practical actions that contribute to safer communities throughout County Cavan.

Presentations were delivered on:

The progress and achievements of the Cavan LCSP to date.
Progress on the development of the Cavan LCSP Community Safety Plan including results from the Community Safety Survey.
The Coco’s Law Initiative in County Cavan, presented by representatives of An Garda Síochána and the newly established Coco’s Law Working Group.
Local smoking cessation supports and information on vaping/e-cigarettes, evidence and associated harms, delivered by representatives from the HSE.

A constructive discussion followed, with elected representatives raising a range of issues affecting communities throughout the county. Topics included Garda recruitment and resourcing, responses to drug-related intimidation, progress in tackling the sale and distribution of illegal substances, supports for victims of domestic violence, and the future of Garda station services in West Cavan.

The meeting reflected the commitment of the Cavan LCSP and its partner agencies to work collaboratively with public representatives and local communities to identify local concerns, enhance community safety, and support the wellbeing of all citizens throughout County Cavan.

The Cavan LCSP will continue to engage with stakeholders and communities to ensure that local community safety priorities are addressed through a coordinated and evidence-based approach.
