New Geopark Ambassadors Celebrated at Graduation Event
Cuilcagh Lakelands UNESCO Global Geopark has welcomed its newest cohort of Geopark Ambassadors following a special graduation event celebrating their achievements, commitment and contribution to their local communities.
The graduation ceremony brought together ambassadors, community representatives, Geopark staff, elected members and guests for an evening of reflection, recognition and connection. The event marked the successful completion of the 2026 Geopark Ambassador Programme and celebrated the growing network of individuals dedicated to promoting and protecting the internationally significant natural and cultural heritage of the Geopark.
As representatives of Cuilcagh Lakelands UNESCO Global Geopark, Ambassadors play a vital role in connecting people with the area's unique landscapes, heritage, history and communities. Through community engagement, events, information stands, local collaborations and projects, ambassadors help share the stories that make the Geopark such a special place to live, work and visit.
Speaking at the event, Councillor John Paul Feeley, Chair of the Geopark Committee said ‘"I extend my sincere congratulations to each of our new Geopark Ambassadors on completing the programme. Ambassadors play a vital role in helping us connect people with the unique landscapes, heritage and communities of Cuilcagh Lakelands UNESCO Global Geopark. As passionate advocates for the local area, you help strengthen community involvement and support the continued growth and development of the Geopark. I look forward to seeing the positive impact you will have in the years ahead."
During the evening, there were contributions from Geopark Manager Gráinne O’Connor, Geopark Community Officer Ashley Robinson, and John Boyle, Director of Community and Wellbeing at Fermanagh and Omagh District Council. Attendees also heard reflections from ambassadors representing the 2011, 2020 and 2026 cohorts, highlighting the impact of the programme and the opportunities it creates for community involvement and heritage promotion.
Speaking afterwards, Councillor Anthony Feely, Vice Chair of the Geopark Committee said ‘Becoming a Geopark Ambassador is much more than completing a training programme; it is a commitment to championing the heritage, environment and communities that make our Geopark so special. I to congratulate all of this year's graduates for the dedication they have demonstrated and thank them for giving their time to support the Geopark's vision.’
Graduates were presented with certificates recognising their achievements before taking part in an Ambassador Showcase, where they shared the interests, projects and initiatives they hope to develop within their communities as part of their ambassador journey.
While the formal programme has now concluded, the Geopark Ambassador journey is only beginning. The graduates now join a growing and active network of ambassadors who continue to support the work of the Geopark through volunteering, community engagement, events and local initiatives.
Cuilcagh Lakelands UNESCO Global Geopark looks forward to working alongside each one of these ambassadors as they help inspire greater appreciation, understanding and connection with the landscapes, heritage and communities that make the Geopark internationally recognised.
