Heritage Week with Cavan Library Service

11 August 2026

Heritage Week 2026 will this year run from Saturday 15^th to Sunday 23^rd August inclusive. In celebration Cavan Libraries will be hosting a number of events across the county including exhibitions, Local History gatherings and children’s workshops.

They will have an exhibition assembled by our new Archivist Martina O’Kane titled "Handwriting before Screens: Lessons from Bailieborough Model School in the 1880s.” which will run for the length of the festival in Johnston Central Library along with a talk by the Local Studies Librarian Jonathan Smyth on Thursday 20^th. Virginia will host a photography exhibition ‘Stone and Silence’ by local man Corey Davenport. Events for children will include storytimes and workshops in Cootehill and Baileborough libraries.

There will be something for everyone with exhibitions, books displays and children’s activity hubs running in all nine libraries for the festival.
