Urban Speed Limit Review 2026 - Public Consultation
In accordance with the provisions of Section 9 of the Road Traffic Act 2004 (as amended) and the Guidelines for Setting and Managing Speed Limits in Ireland issued by the Department of Transport, Cavan County Council is undertaking a review of speed limits in urban areas throughout County Cavan.
The review relates to all towns, villages and settlements within the county that currently have an existing speed limit of 60 km/h or less.
As part of this statutory process, Cavan County Council invites submissions, observations and objections from members of the public in relation to the review.
Public Consultation Period
The public consultation period will run from: Thursday, 16 July 2026 to Friday, 14 August 2026 (inclusive).
Maps and associated documentation will be available for inspection during normal office hours at:
- Cavan-Belturbet Municipal District Office
- Bailieborough-Cootehill Municipal District Office
- Ballyjamesduff Municipal District Office

Submissions, observations and objections will only be accepted during the statutory consultation period from Thursday, 16 July 2026 to Friday, 14 August 2026 inclusive. Submissions received outside this period cannot be considered.
