Uisce Éireann working to repair major leak in Cavan Town
Wednesday, 15 July 2026: Uisce Éireann crews are working to locate and repair a major leak which is impacting water supply to some customers in Cavan Town this evening.
The leak has resulted in critically low levels of treated water at Billis Reservoir, leading to water outages and low pressure for some customers in the town. Crews are on site and working to identify the exact location of the leak so that repairs can be completed as quickly as possible and normal supply restored.
Uisce Éireann’s Peter Gallagher said: "Our crews are on the ground this evening working to locate and repair this leak as quickly as possible. We understand the disruption this is causing customers, and we sincerely apologise for the inconvenience. Every effort is being made to restore normal water supply to our customers and we would like to thank them for their patience and cooperation while these repair works are ongoing. Protecting water supply to critical services remains a priority, and measures are in place to ensure Cavan General Hospital will not be impacted by this outage."
Separately, nighttime water restrictions remain in place in Cavan Town between 11pm and 7am due to increased demand on the network. The ongoing high temperatures have seen an increase in demand for treated water, and this has placed significant pressure on supply.
